..::|About Me|::..

So who am I and what do I do??

As a graduate of Southampton Solent University, I was one of the first to achieve the Digital Media Batchelors class honours degree, a new qualification designed to enable its holder to implement developed key skills in the various fields of emerging new-media technologies. Through practical engagement with modern technologies and mediums including film, photography, and the web, coupled with an academic understanding of how digitalisation has, and is, changing the traditional methods of media promotion, communication, distribution, and consumption, I am able to design, produce and analyse a wide variety of digitised media content for a number of communication platforms including Print, CD/DVD and the Internet. Coupled with my A Level in English, I am able to produce highly informative web-content which is both concise and well structured, whilst being visually appealing through interactive multimedia elements. This has been reflected in the various projects undertaken through the course of studying for my degree, including essays, my thesis on "CitySpace/CyberSpace", PowerPoint presentations, various interactive CD-ROM projects, and my current online portfolio; Rich-w.co.uk

I have a high level of ICT experience (PC & MAC), utilising ICT from a young age and throughout my education, having become highly adept and comfortable at learning new applications and software packages. I am skilled in a wide variety of digital media technologies (Film, Photography, Animation, Graphic Design, and Web Design) and have a practical knowledge of photography, moving image, and the manipulation/editing of these mediums, in addition to having a high level of familiarity with the different pieces of hardware and equipment associated with them. I am also a fast and confident typist, with both my current and previous job roles having been heavily focused towards data entry and the processing of sensitive and confidential personal information, enforcing the need for a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in my work.

Through studying for both higher & further education, in addition to working in a borough council payroll department, I have learnt to meet strict deadlines and adjust/structure my workflow to accommodate any sudden changes that would affect the timescale of a project. It has also enabled me to gain experience in working with people from a range of departmental disciplines (Finance, HR, Resources, Customer Services) and various levels of controlling management.

I moved to Oxford in 2006 to study for my MCIW qualification through an open-learning programme, and started working for CRB Disclosures at Thames Valley Police through Reed Employment on a temporary basis. The importance of data accuracy, meticulous scrutinising, and a strict adherence to the Data Protection and Official Secrets Acts has become paramount.

The Microsoft Certified Internet Webmaster qualification (MCIW) is designed to enable me to further develop and implement the following tools and programming skills into my web-based work: HTML, SQL, PHP, ASP, XML, and JAVA.

In addition, it is highly focused towards the administration of both Wide & Local Area Networks, their security and integrity, as well as the maintenance of sever-based technologies.

MCIW encapsulates several modules that would enable me to easily progress to a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) qualification.
